Mateusz Szczurek, Minister of Finance, was awarded a prestigious title of Finance Minister of the Year for Central & Eastern Europe 2014 by the Emerging Markets service of Euromoney group.

The award ceremony took place in Washington, on the 11th of October, on the occasion of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank annual meeting of ministers of finance and central bank governors.

I consider this award as a proof of acknowledgement not only of myself, but of all those who contributed to the success of polish economy. Never before has Poland been catching up so quickly with the rest of Europe, as it did in the past years. The role of our government, appreciated today (by the award), is to maintain a healthy balance between a low level of deficit in public finances, the potential for growth all along with a high attention paid to the rise of the demand in consumption during the economic slowdown – Mateusz Szczurek said when receiving the award.

The nominees were named by economists, analysts, bankers and investors from both public and private sectors. According to the Emerging Markets editors, Mateusz Szczurek's award is a proof of confidence that foreign investors show towards his management of public finances.

The Emerging Markets Minister of Finance prize was awarded for the third time already to a polish Minister of Finance. In 2009 and 2012 former Minister of Finance, Jacek Rostowski obtained this title.
